Poster Project

For the poster project I decided to recreate The Lion King movie poster. The Lion King is my favorite movie and that’s why I decided to recreate it in Illustrator. I tried my best to find a poster that was more geometric and had less curves so that it wouldn’t be such a hard project to complete. For this project, I did almost the same exact procedures as for the last. I found my image, put it in Illustrator, and traced it until completed. The parts that I really struggled on were the lines for the whiskers because they were just lines and not really shapes that could be filled in. Also the poster originally had some black outlines around everything and it was very challenging to try and cover them up. Also the background was challenging because it changed between three different colors blue, purple, and then black. Doing the gradients to achieve the look was a bit difficult. Overall I’m somewhat satisfied with my final poster design. I think if I had more time to work on it my final poster would have been a lot better.

Gradient Mesh Project

For the gradient mesh project I simply choose one of my favorite fruits, a strawberry, and I created my own illustrated image. I began the project by finding an image of a strawberry online. I them put the image into illustrator and used the gradient tool to create the base color of the strawberry. Then using the eyedropper tool I had to go in and do the highlights and shadows and then the seeds. The most difficult part of this project was creating all the little highlights and shadows where the seeds are. The whole process in all honesty wasn't hard but time consuming. I only made one highlight and shadow shape and one seed shape and then I just copied and pasted to make it easier for myself. Personally this project has been the hardest because attention to detail was key in order to make the fruit look somewhat realistic. 

Business Cards Project

For the business card project I used the creations I made from the logo project and used them to make my business cards. I wanted my business cards to be simple and modern. I wanted them to follow the minimalistic style of the logos I created. I also chose to use a lot of lines and cool toned colors for my business cards in order to give off a modern and sleek feeling. I found most of my inspiration for my business cards by looking up other business card designs on the internet. Through this project I learned how to make business cards in Illustrator. I also learned how to make a clipping mask. On one of my business cards the logo is of a wolf and its head is pointing up howling at the moon. I wanted to make this image the majority of the card. I enlarged the image to where just enough of the edges were falling off the card but it still looked great. Then I went ahead and made the mask. Overall, I really enjoyed coming up with the designs of the cards.

Logo Project

For the logo project I wanted to create logos that would be minimalist but still interesting to look at. I looked for various images of animal line art and minimalistic drawings until I finally came across one that I really liked. Once I found the image of the wolf that I liked I continued searching for more images of wolves that I liked. After I found all the images I wanted to use I had to trace them in various ways in Illustrator to create the logos and sort of make them my own. After doing this, I was left with my final designs and I then choose my favorite three to then make into my business cards. In doing this project I got a lot of practice using the pen tool in Illustrator by having to trace the various images I chose. The most challenging part of this project was doing the tracing. I wanted the images to still be recognizable in the end after I was done tracing them. Overall, my favorite part of the project was seeing the end results of the logos I had come up with. I was very impressed with what I can up with and I personally think they are pretty good.
